Firework Failure Burns Down City of Cerritos
The sun has fallen, July has begun, dinner is but a faint memory, and the dry heat pervades your bedroom through the window. Just as you are beginning to drift to sleep, your woozy state is disrupted by a loud boom. Then another. It is July 2nd in Cerritos and, for no apparent reason, the boys next door have decided to celebrate the upcoming holiday -- tonight. In this moment, you feel a rage so burning hot that it could singlehandedly incinerate the Cerritos, Artesia, and Norwalk area.
This year, for the Fourth of July, Ivy and Bean, along with the little siblings, took an excursion to the City of Cerritos Let Freedom Ring Celebration. For five glorious hours, the well-worn street of Bloomfield was transformed into a wonderland full of intriguing food trucks, flashing lights, good times, and everyone you've ever met*.
Please enjoy these photos from the event (and our little picnic beforehand).
To some, this event might have seemed like #nobigdeal. No big whoop, am I right? Ha. For the IvyBeanCommunity, this was a major revelation, akin to the third coming of Christ. For as long as we can remember, our parents have walked us along the dark streets to the top of the parking garage on Bloomfield to sit shivering, waiting to watch the Cerritos fireworks behind a screen of pine trees. We were led to believe that such a viewing location was a steal. We had won, we thought.
This year, we realized that we had been missing out on, for lack of better terms, A Rager At The Civic Center. We danced. We laughed. We screamed**.
I'll leave this recap here for now, but this won't be the last you hear from us. Keep checking in and we'll keep the content coming.
Xx, Ivy & Bean
*We conducted an experiment, individually tallying the number of people we knew at the event. By the end, both little siblings had crossed into the three digit zone.
**On the walk home, about 50 feet from our ultimate destination, we were unpleasantly surprised by a splattering of cold water (and mud?).

That part about the ending teenage years really resonated with me. As someone who grew up in Cerritos (much like you guys!) and has moved away... I sometimes think about all the fond memories I've made and dream of going back to relive those moments, walk down memory lane. Your content is such a blessing! Great summer readings
